Summary of the contracting process

The University of Birmingham is conducting a tender for the supply and installation of energy-efficient drying cabinets, aimed at improving laboratory equipment efficiency. This project falls within the category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, with a budget capped at £24,000, excluding VAT. The tender period will close on 8th May 2018, and the contract is expected to commence on 29th May and run until 29th June 2018. Delivery addresses include various national and international locations, centring around the university's Edgbaston campus.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in energy-efficient laboratory equipment, particularly those that can demonstrate innovative solutions for reducing power consumption. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that have experience with high-energy laboratory appliances may find this contract particularly advantageous, as the university seeks to replace outdated units with modern, efficient alternatives. Supplying firms should be prepared to offer installation services and showcase their capacity to meet stringent performance and safety standards.

Notice Title

Supply and Installation of Energy Efficient Drying Cabinets

Notice Description

The university regularly uses vast amounts of glass ware in laboratory research. Often this glass ware is required 24/7 and as such needs to be available as soon as possible. Therefore many labs on campus employ electrical drying cabinets that heat up a chamber to forcefully dry glassware much quicker. Due to the nature of this piece of lab equipment it requires a lot of power to dry the materials, in most cases 30kWh and more. Commonly these units have been brought many years ago and passed down from lab group to group. This means that they are poorly maintained, insulated and lacking appropriate energy efficiency measures such as on/off timers etc. The project scope is to replace and where possible rationalise the existing units across campus for more energy efficient units. There were 9 old, inefficient units found to be in operation on campus some of which were running 24/7. These units cost the university thousands of pounds to run each year and are responsible for tonnes of carbon emissions. A supplier specialising in energy efficient cabinets is required in order to provide brand new, efficient and safe units. The anticipated overall budget for these items is up to PS24,000.00 excluding VAT. This project is to be funded by Salix Green Funding. Additional information: Is a Recurrent Procurement Type? : No
