Notice Title

SCC LP Support for Surrey's Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE)

Notice Description

The 1988 Education Reform Act placed a statutory requirement on every Local Authority (LA) to establish a permanent body called a Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE). The RE curriculum is determined by the local SACRE which is responsible for producing the locally agreed syllabus for RE. In Surrey, the appointed SACRE is made up of four groups representing: o Christian denominations (other than the Church of England) o Other faith and belief groups representing the principle religious traditions or beliefs in the county o The Church of England o Other faith groups representing the main religious traditions of the area o Humanists representing a non-religious world view o Teachers Professional Associations o Surrey County Council. Surrey County Council currently commissions professional support for SACRE through a third party provider, the contract for which is scheduled to end on 31 March 2019. In order for the LA to continue to meet its statutory duties, it has been determined that support for SACRE will be re-commissioned under new delivery arrangements as a single package of specialist support.
