Summary of the contracting process

The urgent treatment centre (UTC) services at St Mary's Hospital are being managed by NHS Shared Business Services, with the overarching procurement process classified as a modification of an existing contract. This modification aims to extend the interim contract for six months, necessitated by a period of review regarding urgent care commissioning strategies within North West London, effective from April 20, 2021, to October 21, 2021. The total value of the extended contract is £2,215,491, contributing to a new overall contract value of £28,801,386. The procurement falls under health services and is located in London, with the tender period having concluded on March 24, 2021.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the healthcare sector, particularly those providing urgent care services. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary and community sector enterprises (VCSEs) are well-positioned to compete given the emphasis on local service continuity and the need for innovative solutions in urgent care. As NHS Central London Clinical Commissioning Group evolves into North West London CCG, participating in this tender could allow businesses to play a critical role in shaping the future of urgent healthcare in the region while addressing the ongoing pressures resulting from the COVID-19 response.

Notice Title

Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) Services in St Mary's Hospital

Notice Description

Urgent treatment centre (UTC), GP-led, open at least 12 hours a day, every day, offer appointments that can be booked through 111 or through a GP referral, and equipped to diagnose and deal with many of the most common ailments people attend A&E for. The UTC will also ease the pressure on hospitals, leaving other parts of the system free to treat the most serious cases. Additional information: Along with 7 other CCGs in the area, NHS Central London Clinical Commissioning Group is to be incorporated into a new CCG from 1st April 2021 - North West London Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). A period of review is required from April 2021 to agree the future model of care and to identify the commissioning strategies for urgent care services across NW London for the coming year and beyond. The existing contract is therefore being modified to extend its duration for an interim period of 6 months in order to enable this review to take place. This modification is necessary to ensure continuity of these critical urgent care services for local patients. The CCG has considered its obligations under the NHS (Procurement Patient Choice and Competition) (No.2) Regulations 2013 and assesses that the incumbent provider offers the safest solution to ensure this continuity at this time, particularly having regard to the priorities and resource pressures associated with the local NHS response to COVID-19. This contract modification is assessed to be proportionate and lawful under Regulation 72(1)(b)
