Summary of the contracting process

Cumbria County Council is initiating a tender for the "Road Restraint Systems 2020-2023" project, aimed at enhancing road safety through the installation and maintenance of barrier systems. This open procurement process will commence with the tender period ending on 26th June 2020, while the contract itself is set to start on 1st August 2020 and will last until 31st July 2023. The tender, with an estimated value of £3,000,000, falls under the construction and auxiliary products sector, particularly relating to transport equipment, and will take place in the region of England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in civil engineering, construction, or road safety solutions. Companies that specialise in transport infrastructure and have experience with safety installations would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Notice Title

Road Restraint Systems 2020-2023

Notice Description

A term service contract has been in place for the last 4 years for Road Restraint System replacement works. The primary purpose of this contract was to deliver a programme of replacement of identified substandard sections of road restraint systems throughout the County. The contract was also used to commission reactive repairs to systems damaged as a result of road traffic accidents. Over the 4 year term of the contract this replacement has been substantially completed. The existing term contract expires on 31st May 2020. Whilst the replacement programme for substandard existing barrier systems has been largely completed the County has identified and received funding for significant new barrier systems on two county roads as part of wider road safety schemes. It has also been established that a cyclical programme of inspections of the existing systems is required to comply with standards and continuously identify any sections reaching end of life conditions. It is envisaged that a new term contract will primarily be used to deliver the proposed new road restraint systems works on the A684 and A592 but will also be used to complete the final replacement programme works, carry out reactive repairs and replacements, undertake cyclical inspections of the Countywide road restraint system asset and carry out any resulting replacement works.
