Summary of the contracting process

Highways England has recently completed a procurement process for the provision of traffic count data services, titled "1--4c Traffic count data collection (March 2020) for Regional Traffic Model refresh - Midlands." This initiative, valued at approximately £179,555, falls under the broad category of research and development services and related consultancy services. The contract period extends from 24th January 2020 to 30th June 2020, with the tender period having closed on 20th December 2019. The work will be conducted across specified locations primarily in the North East region of the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in traffic data collection and analysis. Companies that can efficiently utilise automatic traffic counters and demonstrate expertise in collating and integrating data from various sources, such as local authorities, will be particularly well-placed to compete. The use of a selective procurement method via a framework agreement suggests that firms of varying sizes, especially those with established frameworks, may benefit from participation in future contracts as Highways England seeks ongoing traffic data services to inform their planning and operational needs.
