Pedigree Software Solution for the West Midlands Regional Clinical Genetics Service
Notice Description
*PLEASE NOTE* - The relevant Authority for this pre-market engagement exercise is: Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust Steelhouse Lane Birmingham B4 6NH Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to engage with suppliers interested in its requirement for a Pedigree Software Solution for The West Midlands Regional Clinical Genetics Service. The West Midlands Regional Clinical Genetics Service at Birmingham Women's Hospital specialises in the diagnosis and management of conditions with a known or probable genetic origin. We are the largest Clinical Genetics Service in England. We shave over 100 members of staff, receiving over a 1000 referrals each month. Within the cancer pathway our patients have been referred due to having a cancer diagnosis themselves or a relative having with cancer. Patients often get referred to us with the following questions. - Am I or members of my family at an increased risk of developing cancer? - Is there extra cancer screening? - Are there any things I can do to reduce my risk? - Can I have a genetic test? - Inform their current treatment options. To be able to answer these questions we need to make a full assessment of a patient's family history which requires the patient to complete a family history form. The current family history form is paper-based the information provided in this form currently requires manual entry and/or updating by our admin & genetic counsellor staff. Once the family history has been received we use this to form a pedigree of the family. When all the available information has been sought, the clinical team use this data to calculate personal cancer risks by using specific cancer risk assessment tools to answer the questions above. A digital solution is required to be able to streamline all the above and mitigate risks within the current process and outdated software currently in use. Suppliers who are able to offer a solution relevant to this requirement are invited to express an interest and respond to a market engagement questionnaire. Further details on how to do this are contained within the additional information section of this notice. This exercise is intended to provide potential bidders with the opportunity to review the Authority's draft specification and to provide information regarding the services they can offer that could meet these outline requirements. This builds on the Authority's commitment to engage with the market, by sharing information and seeking input from the market to enable us to develop the final specification and determine the appropriate route to market in a fair and transparent manner.
