Summary of the contracting process

The Buckinghamshire Highways Service procurement process is initiated by Buckinghamshire Council, which oversees the maintenance of the highway network in the region. This planning stage includes a substantial £540 million investment aimed at establishing a new service delivery model to improve in-house capabilities and operational efficiency. Key dates include an engagement end date set for 7th July 2021, with the procurement expected to commence in August 2021. Services to be contracted include a Term Maintenance Contract and a Term Consultancy Contract, alongside two separate frameworks for major and minor works in the highways sector, classified under the CPV code for construction and surface works.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in construction, maintenance, or consultancy services related to highways. Companies experienced in providing road repair, maintenance, and consultancy services would be well-suited to compete for these contracts. The structure of the procurement includes options for SMEs to participate, which can offer them an avenue for collaboration and growth within the public sector framework. Engaging in the forthcoming virtual market event will provide further insights into the contractual arrangements and enable potential bidders to position themselves effectively ahead of the tenders’ release.
