Summary of the contracting process

Transport for London (TfL) is in the planning stage of the procurement process for the "Platform Train Interface" project, which pertains to the industry category of "Transport equipment and auxiliary products to transportation" with the CPV code 34000000. This pre-procurement activity aims to address safety challenges at the platform-train interface in London, located at postal code SE1 8NJ. The market engagement milestone is set to conclude on 2nd October 2024, with interested participants required to complete the Market Sounding Questionnaire (MSQ) by midday on 13th September 2024. This process involves seeking feedback from the market on innovative solutions, with no immediate commitment to future procurement guaranteed.

This tender presents an exceptional opportunity for businesses, particularly SMEs, to offer innovative solutions that can improve safety and efficiency at platform edges. By participating in this early engagement, companies can potentially influence future procurement exercises and showcase their cutting-edge technologies and approaches. Businesses specialising in transport safety, engineering, and innovation would find this tender especially well-suited to their expertise. Such involvement could lead to significant growth by aligning with TfL’s objectives and by being at the forefront of enhancing commuter safety in one of the world’s largest transport networks.

Notice Title

The Platform Train Interface

Notice Description

Transport for London's Open Innovation Team works with market innovators of all sizes to help solve some of the challenges that TfL faces where there is a need for more innovative solutions. Rather than prescribing solutions, we instead look to the market for creative, resourceful and novel approaches to problem solving to create new value for TfL by doing things better, quicker or cheaper. This will seek feedback on potential solutions to reduce the risk of falls, accidents on the track and falls or accidents between the platform and train, as well as how we might reduce potential consequences of such incidents in the event they do occur. How might TfL: Eliminate or reduce the risk of falls on the track and falls between the train and the platform? Eliminate or reduce of incidents caused by objects or people getting trapped in the doors? Reduce the potential consequences of such incidents if they do occur? The Platform Train Interface (PTI) is the platform edge where it interfaces with trains and is normally accessible to customers. This includes the gap between the train and the platform. This gap is a common feature in metros of all networks across the world and London is no exception. Interested respondents are required to email msqinnovation@tfl.gov.uk to request the Platform Train Interface (PTI) - Market Sounding Questionnaire (MSQ) for completion by 12:00 (midday) on Monday 13 September 2024 in order to receive the MSQ. This is a pre-procurement activity and does not imply any commitment to any future procurement process. The purpose is to seek feedback on TfL's approach, appetite from industry and information on alternative solutions that are being developed in the marketplace for similar schemes. Participation in the PIN and subsequent MSQ is not a prerequisite to, and will not prejudice, participation in any future competitive process. The information contained in this PIN or in any communication made between TfL and any supplier in connection with this should not be relied upon as constituting a contract, agreement, or representation that any contract will be offered as a result of this PIN and MSQ. If TfL decides to progress with any procurement exercise , TfL will publish a separate contract notice.
