Summary of the contracting process

The University of Southampton is currently in the planning stage of a soft market engagement exercise titled "Library Courier Requirement," aimed at gathering insights and options for a text book return solution. The engagement period concludes on 19 June 2020, with an emphasis on exploring available courier services to retrieve books and printed materials from users. This exercise does not represent a formal procurement process but serves to inform the university of potential solutions. The designated address for this tender is Southampton, England, with specific focus on post and courier services classified under CPV code 64100000.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in courier and logistics services to engage with a prestigious educational institution. Companies that can offer innovative and efficient freight solutions suitable for managing library assets would be particularly well-suited to participate. By enabling dialogue through this market engagement, businesses can establish relationships and showcase their capabilities, which may lead to future procurement opportunities with the University of Southampton.

Notice Title

University of Southampton - Library Courier Requirement - Market Engagement Exercise

Notice Description

The University of Southampton (UoS) is currently exploring a range of options for a Text Books Return Solution. The University is keen to explore options that are currently available in the marketplace and this exercise aims to inform interested parties of our anticipated requirements. We hope that this will present an opportunity to open dialogue prior to engaging in any business agreement. The University of Southampton's Library Services are looking to retrieve a number of books and other printed reading materials that are currently out on loan to users, including students and staff. The soft market exercise is intended to allow interested organisations with appropriate experience to outline their views and provide impartial information to the University with no commitment to themselves or the University. It is not part of a formal procurement process nor shall the University be committed to carrying out such a process. The ultimate aim is to understand the availability of solutions to the University to deliver the outcomes above. The aim of the soft market test is not to select organisations with which to work. It is to better understand the solutions available in the market and to inform the University's strategy for fulfilling their requirements. However, it can be viewed as an opportunity for suppliers to become familiar with the University and to inform the University of their organisation and relative services. The soft market testing process will consist of submission of the attached questionnaire using the University's e-tendering portal, which may be followed up with demonstration sessions (which could be in person or via electronic means such as conference call or WebEx). Interested parties should note that they are required not to make direct contact with university employees and all correspondence should be directed to the Procurement Team. This is not a call for competition at this stage.
