Summary of the contracting process

The University of Birmingham is currently undertaking a tender process for the "Pritchatts Park Expansion," with a focus on the design, build, finance, and operation of student housing. This initiative aims to enhance the university's residential estate, which currently accommodates over 5,000 students across various locations, and is vital for addressing the projected growth in student numbers. The procurement method is selective, conducted through a competitive dialogue, and the deadline for tender submissions is set for 10 April 2020. The project is classified under the CPV code for real estate services, and the primary location for this opportunity is Edgbaston, Birmingham (postcode B15 2TT). The contract period is expected to begin on 4 October 2020 and last until 2 October 2070.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in real estate services, particularly those with experience in student accommodation and large-scale construction projects. Companies that can demonstrate financial capacity and expertise in providing high-quality, affordable housing solutions for educational institutions will be well-suited to compete. Engaging in this project not only expands a company’s portfolio but also aligns with the growing demand for student housing in the UK, making it a lucrative avenue for business growth.

Notice Title

Pritchatts Park Expansion

Notice Description

The University of Birmingham ('the University') would like to procure a Student Housing Partner (SHP) to design, build, finance and operate its Pritchatts Park Village, as part of a stock transfer and new build project (the 'Project'), which should have minimal impact on the University's balance sheet. The strategic context is that the University wants to increase the number of high-quality, affordable beds, in order to maintain its guarantee to accommodate its growing student population, while at the same time upgrading some of its older stock. The Project is a vital step in providing the facilities to support the forecast growth in student numbers and thereby enhance the attractiveness and reputation of the University. The University's residential estate comprises 5,183 freehold beds across three villages: The Vale (3,531 beds), Pritchatts Park (734 beds), and Selly Oak (918 beds). The majority of the estate is self-catered, with a catered option at The Vale. There is mix of room types across the estate: mostly standard and en-suite rooms, with a smaller number of studios. It also currently has nomination agreements across five private halls (total 1,872 beds). The scope of this Project only includes the University's Pritchatts Park Village. See Section 4 for more details. Additional information: Is a Recurrent Procurement Type? : No
