Summary of the contracting process

The University Hospitals Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is managing a public procurement tender for a Clinical Waste Management service on behalf of the Northern Clinical Waste Consortium. This initiative involves multiple NHS Trusts across regions including North East, North West, and Yorkshire and the Humber in the United Kingdom. The tender is in the active stage of procurement, with the process employing an open procedure method. The published tender seeks services for the safe handling, transport, and disposal of clinical waste, with the tender period ending on 16th December 2025. The contract is anticipated to commence on 1st September 2026 and span over three years, with potential extensions up to two additional years.

This procurement presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in waste management, particularly those capable of delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions for clinical waste services. The contract is worth between £6,150,000 and £10,250,000, offering substantial growth potential for service providers. However, companies must be adept in handling large-scale operations across various NHS Trusts while ensuring compliance with industry regulations. Although the tender is open to all, businesses that are not SMEs or VCSEs might find a strategic advantage due to the contract's scope and complexity. This call is ideal for enterprises experienced in sustainable waste management solutions looking to expand their footprint in the healthcare sector.
