The procurement, classified under research and development services, has been completed and the award of the contract to TRL was published on 16th November 2018. The contract, valued at £145,000, commenced on 13th November 2018 and is scheduled to run until 31st March 2020. The procurement method used was a selective approach, specifically a call-off from a framework agreement, with the relevant activities situated in the East Midlands and South East regions of the United Kingdom.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses involved in social research and behavioural consultancy to expand their operations, especially those with expertise in analysing driver behaviour and behaviour change strategies. With its focus on improving road safety and customer experience, companies that deliver innovative research methodologies or have a background in working with transport infrastructure would be particularly well-suited to compete for similar projects. This project highlights the growing demand for insights into driver behaviour, making it a lucrative avenue for research-driven firms.

Notice Title

1-683 Driver intentions and behaviours - improving the evidence base

Notice Description

Highways England's Social Research and Behaviour Change Team are seeking expert input to support the business in better understanding driver intentions and behaviours in relation to the Strategic Road Network. Highway England's primary imperative is to improve safety on the network, while at the same time improving customer experience/satisfaction, network efficiency and journey reliability. Understanding how drivers behave on our network and how best to influence their behaviour towards safer driving is fundamental to achieving our imperatives. In order to achieve this Highways England needs to develop a coherent, consistent and theoretically and empirically rigorous approach to supporting driver behaviour and behaviour change. This project will support that ambition by delivering a suite of tools and resources within an overall framework for use by the business.
