Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Education is planning a tender titled "High quality resources to support the teaching of Relationships Education; Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education." This initiative aims to ensure that all state-funded schools can effectively deliver essential education by September 2020. The engagement period is currently open, with a key deadline for input set for 31st October 2019. The procurement falls under the education and training services category and is focused on enhancing teaching resources across the United Kingdom, including British Overseas Territories, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in educational resources, particularly those that have expertise in sensitive topics such as safeguarding and health education. Businesses capable of providing quality-assured teaching materials that cater to diverse pupil needs, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), will be strongly positioned to compete. Engaging with the Department for Education can significantly enhance visibility and credibility within the educational sector.

Notice Title

High quality resources to support the teaching of Relationships Education; Relationships and Sex Education, and Health Education

Notice Description

* We have committed to ensuring that all schools are able to deliver high quality Relationships Education at primary age, Relationships and Sex Education at secondary age, and Health Education for all ages in state-funded schools, by September 2020. * Teachers, unions and expert stakeholders have highlighted the importance of access to high quality resources in order to deliver this content effectively and consistently, for the benefit of teachers and pupils. * We want to ensure that there are accessible, trusted resources available that cover the content in our statutory guidance for these three subjects, whilst respecting and enabling schools' flexibility to deliver the content in a way that is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of their particular cohort of pupils. This will include provision for children with SEND. * These subjects have the power to transform a pupil's awareness of the world around them, their ability to understand what a healthy relationship looks like, and the laws on relationships. Teachers having access to high quality resources to support their teaching of these subjects especially sensitive topics, such as on safeguarding and mental health is important. We therefore will look to ensure that there are resources on offer with an appropriate level of expert quality assurance which reflects the nature of the content. Additional information: The Authority expects to issue non-binding guidance to schools signposting teaching resources that have been subject to a robust quality assured process by one or more third party quality assurance organisations. The purpose of the day is for the Authority to seek input from quality assurance organisations and teaching resource providers as to how the best quality assure teaching resources relevant to these topics can be made available to schools. The Authority will seek attendees' views on the most appropriate and effective processes for guaranteeing teacher access to quality assured resources in order to support the successful implementation of these subjects. The event will take place at the Authority's London offices on May 10. To register your interest, please email Ade.ALAO@education.gov.uk and Jemma.ALLMAN@education.gov.uk by 07/05/19 confirming the name, telephone number and email address of all attendees. A maximum of two attendees per organisation are able to attend.
