Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves Durham County Council seeking bids for the construction of their new city centre headquarters. The project, valued at £50 million, is classified under civil engineering works and aims to create a contemporary building that respects the historic context of Durham. The tender period concluded on 12 April 2017, with the contract phased from 18 September 2018 to 31 March 2019. The procurement method was selective, necessitating a competitive dialogue with potential suppliers.

This opportunity could be favourable for construction and engineering firms, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), looking to expand their portfolios in public sector projects. The design of the headquarters presents possibilities for sustainable construction and innovative architectural solutions. Businesses that can align with contemporary working practices and demonstrate an understanding of civic architecture would be especially well-positioned to compete for this contract.
