Summary of the contracting process

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is seeking analytical laboratory services for the detection, measurement, and reporting of radioactivity levels under the title "UKRI-1930." This procurement falls under the laboratory services industry category, with a total contract value of £350,000. The procurement process is currently in the Tender stage, with the submission deadline set for 31 March 2022 at 16:00. This contract is intended for delivery in the South East of the United Kingdom, with a contract period commencing on 29 April 2022 and concluding on 28 April 2026. The procurement method is an open procedure, allowing for broad participation.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in laboratory services, particularly those capable of conducting destructive analysis for various radionuclides and performing gamma spectrometry. Businesses well-versed in handling and analysing radioactive materials, especially those with the capability to manage samples with different activity levels, would be well-suited to compete for this contract. Participation in this procurement could enhance their portfolio and establish long-term relationships with a significant government buyer.

Notice Title

Notice Description

Text to be corrected in the original notice: Instead of: 31 March 2022 Time: 16:00 Read New: 07 April 2022 Time: 16:00 Instead of: 31 March 2022 Time: 17:00 Read New: 07 April 2022 Time: 17:00 Other additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement. UKRI-STFC requires an independent accredited laboratory to carry out destructive analysis for a range of radionuclides and gamma spectrometry on smaller sub samples which require a lower Minimal Detectable Amount (MDA). Most of the samples will require analysis by gamma spectroscopy with some destructive analysis. Dependent on the sample analysis requests might frequently include 55Fe, 63Ni, 3H, 14C and gross alpha beta. The samples will have a typical range of activities ranging from samples of out of scope limits to Intermediate Level Wastes (ILW).
