Summary of the contracting process

The North of England Commissioning Support (NECS) is initiating a procurement process for an Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) Service, aimed at treating symptomatic Articular Cartilage Defects of the knee in the North West region of England. The planning stage of this process is currently underway, with a milestone engagement end date set for 29th July 2021. The service is expected to have a total budget of approximately £1,367,322 over a potential three-year period, which includes an option to extend for an additional year based on a tariff-based payment model. Interested parties are encouraged to register on the In-Tend electronic tendering portal for further engagement.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for healthcare providers and organisations specialising in orthopaedic services to contribute to a pioneering treatment programme that is not yet available in the region. Businesses that offer health and social work services, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), would be especially well-suited to participate in this engagement exercise. By expressing interest now, these organisations can position themselves favourably for future contract opportunities once a formal tender notice is released.
