Notice Title

Research Project Understanding Future Water Demand from Outside the Water Industry

Notice Description

The Requirement of this work covers two aspects, an assessment of available evidence and collating available data into datasets that can be used to inform assessments of demand in the water resources national framework and future resource planning. It will: - Assess the scale and likely growth of water use in a range of sectors in order to understand the significance of their future water demands. These should include those that are currently regulated and those currently exempt from regulation or who will shortly be brought into regulation. - Identify high priority water users, for example, those who are likely to expand and / or operate in locations where water is scarce, or where competition with other uses may become intense. This includes both national priorities and more local priorities, for example, where demand is constrained to one or a few locations - Identify and collate datasets that can feed into national water resources models to allow us to include the estimated growth from these high priority water users in our national assessment and successfully identify national and regional pressures - Develop or refine scenarios showing a range of plausible futures at a regional scale - Modelling of future water demands is beyond the scope of this project but the outputs from this project should be in a format to feed into the modelling work carried out by EA and others. Exact details of the format will be determined during the course of the project by consultation with EA and other stakeholders via the project steering group The data developed (as an intended input to modelling) should be represented in scenarios where possible Additional information: Please note that Defra procurement uses an E-tendering system for Procurement activities. This is currently provided by Bravo Solutions.
