Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process is currently in the planning stage, initiated by King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford, England, for the construction of a new sports hall. The project aims to establish a dedicated facility of 2,000 to 2,450 square metres, compliant with Sports England specifications, which will also be available for community use. A market engagement event is scheduled for 17th October 2016, aimed at informing potential contractors about the project and its requirements before the formal tender process begins. The planned construction period is expected to start on 1st May 2017 and conclude by 31st January 2018, with an estimated contract value of £3.1 million.

This tender presents significant opportunities for construction firms, particularly those specialising in educational infrastructure, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary and community sector enterprises (VCSEs) encouraged to participate. Contractors that can demonstrate expertise in value engineering and adherence to public procurement standards will be particularly well-positioned. The engagement event will provide critical insights into the project’s timeline and cost requirements, making it essential for interested businesses to attend and showcase their capabilities.

Notice Title

School Sports Hall Market Engagement Event

Notice Description

There will be a market engagement event on 17th October at 2-4pm at King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford to outline the design and share ideas as to the solution which will meet cost and value criteria for the school. This will be a contract to build a Sports Hall with some Community use for a secondary Academy to Sports England approved dimensions. The aim is to produce a self contained 2,000 - 2450 sq metre space to Sports England dimensions including a 5 badminton court hall, fitness suite and gym. Built to Public procurement and JCT standards. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of this project before proceeding to a formal tender process. This process will help contractors who wish to be considered for the tender process to understand the project timescales and our constraints, and allow us to outline the value for money requirements of the project. The event will include presnetation of the designs which have recently been accorded planning permission and a short tour of the site of the proposed building. A request for Information will be issued which would allow interested contractors to indicate an interest in the project as well as to exhibit their ability to value engineer any significant areas within the brief. This is not a commitment to proceed with the project or accept any tenders. Contractors should attend at their own expense. We hope to commence the build early Q2 2017 and complete within 9 - 10 months.
