Brief description: Head of SEND (for immediate start) o Responsible to Assistant Director, Inclusive Learning Services and Assistant Director, Education Services o Working hours: 30 hours Job summary: o To lead strategic development work with the LA SEN team to promote the effective local implementation of inclusive practices in response to national SEND and Inclusion policy. o To develop of local education policy and practice to promote aspirational inclusive holistic educational outcomes for children and young people with SEN and Disabilities and those who are in alternative education provision. Essential: o Experience of leading successful SEND and/or Alternative Education Provision leading to successful educational outcomes for children and young people. o Experience of supporting school improvement and school development as a leader or in an advisory capacity. o Understanding of the national curriculum and statutory assessments of all relevant key stages. o A track record of excellent classroom practice and innovative curriculum development. o Experience of using local, national and school data to monitor, evaluate and improve school performance. o Experience of the preparation of written reports on educational issues o Evidence of training to maintain up-to-date knowledge with respect to SEND and Inclusion and other related educational issues o Knowledge of the national policy and statutory framework for education, particularly as related to Inclusion and SEND o Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and related regulatory and statutory frameworks for Inclusion and SEND. o An understanding of how inclusive practices promote and support school improvement. o An understanding of the responsibilities and the role of Governing Bodies in relation to Inclusion and SEND. o Knowledge and understanding of effective Inclusion, inclusive practices and provision, and SEND provision and practices across a range of settings. o Able to travel to various locations across the Local Authority. o Able to work outside normal office hours on an occasional basis. o Ability to enthuse and motivate others. o Adaptable, flexible and resilient. o Self-confidence. o Commitment, reliability and integrity, o Approachable. o Personal impact, presence and excellent interpersonal skills. o Ability to consult, negotiate and influence others and to resolve conflict. o Able to demonstrate creative and imaginative problem solving o Ability to be reflective and self-critical. o Self-mot...
