Earby Pilot Site - Future opportunity notice

Notice Description

The Environment Agency is developing a large programme of Natural Flood Management (NFM) measures across the River Aire Catchment as part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme, Phase 2, Project. The planned NFM programme is landscape scale. It will provide a minimum reduction of 5% off the flood peak in Leeds through a variety of measures which include - Woodland creation: increasing tree canopy across the catchment. - Land management: run off reduction via various means, including in urban areas. - River and flood plain restoration: storage ponds and re-meandering, amongst others. As part of this project, the Environment Agency is delivering some pilot sites in 2018/2019. One of which is in Earby, Lancashire. To enable the development and delivery of this project, the Environment Agency is seeking a suitability experienced contractor to deliver Natural Flood Management measures on a farm in Earby. Works may include: - Creation of ponds; - Creation of wetland scrapes; - Planting shrubs, hedgerows and trees; - Construction of fences, and - Construction of woody dams. Tenders are likely to be evaluated on quality, price and value for money. As part of the quality element, the following attributes are likely to be considered: - Suitable resource availability and technical competence to undertake the works; - Evidence of experience in delivering successful landscape restoration projects, which have included habitat creation and appropriate management of sensitive landscape and ecological features on site; - Evidence of experience in working with farms and individual land owners; - Necessary systems in place to manage environmental and sustainability impacts of operations. E.g. ISO14001; - Provision of a high quality customer focussed service, demonstrated with client testimonials, and - Being competent under CDM Regs 2015. The contract is likely to be for a period of 3 months commencing in autumn 2018.
