Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process, initiated by The Northern Lighthouse Board, is for the refurbishment and upgrade of the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, with a total contract value of £500,000. This project, anticipated to commence in April 2018 and conclude by January 2019, involves a two-phase approach: an initial six-week phase for refurbishing the outer quarterdecks, followed by a comprehensive upgrade of the tower. The tender period closes on 10 January 2018, and the work is classified under the construction and civil engineering sector, specifically painting and electrical installation works. A site visit is scheduled for 10 January 2018, necessitating prior confirmation with the procurement officer.

This tender presents considerable opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the construction industry, particularly those with expertise in refurbishment, electrical systems, and painting. The phased nature of the work allows for diverse specialisation, making it suitable for contractors that can work effectively across different trades. Given the focus on modernising heritage sites, businesses equipped to navigate regulatory requirements and offer innovative solutions in renovation are especially encouraged to participate.
