Summary of the contracting process

The UK Centre For Ecology & Hydrology is seeking suppliers for the Multi-channel Seal AA500 instrument, a significant procurement in the field of sealing equipment, specifically designed for phosphorus, ammonium, and silicon analysis. The contract was awarded on the 19th of September 2021, with a total value of £58,638. The contract period spans from the 20th of September 2021 to the 31st of December 2021, and the procurement was conducted via a direct method as a single tender action below the threshold. Interested parties should note that the opportunity is located in Wallingford, England, with previous experience in similar analytical instruments being advantageous. The tender process has now reached the award stage.

This procurement presents an excellent opportunity for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the analytical equipment sector, particularly those with expertise in producing sealing technologies or conducting specialised analytical services. Companies that can provide training and installation services alongside their equipment will be well-positioned to compete. As the UK Centre For Ecology & Hydrology values reliability and technical familiarity, suppliers who have a proven track record in maintaining and servicing similar instruments may find this opportunity particularly beneficial for business growth.

Notice Title

Multi-channel Seal AA500 instrument

Notice Description

Seal AA500 3-Channel Segmented Flow Analyser for phosphorus, ammonium and silicon analysis. Plus training and installation. Additional information: The Wallingford chemistry laboratories have used Seal segmented flow analysers since the mid-1990s. Their instruments have proved very accurate and extremely reliable, with the instrument we are replacing running continually for 17 years. Adopting other analytical techniques will cause a "technology-based" change in our 25 year datasets, and this would be difficult and time consuming to "calibrate out". A new instrument would require us to develop new analytical procedures, which would be time consuming and expensive. Finally, the lab analysts are very comfortable with how these instruments operate, and are able to carry out maintenance and simple repairs without the need to call out service engineers, which saves lots of money.
