Summary of the contracting process

The Reading Borough Council is preparing to procure Mortuary Services, aiming to arrange contracts for facilities that support HM Senior Coroner Berkshire. This tender is currently in the planning stage and will allow for the provision of vital mortuary and post mortem services within the jurisdiction. Interested organisations must submit their expressions of interest by 5pm on 20 September 2019 via the Council's e-tendering system. The contracts are expected to commence on 1 April 2020, running for three years, with a potential maximum extension of four additional years. The estimated value of the contract over the full term could reach £2.6 million, and it will be procured through an open procedure, allowing wider participation.

This tender provides a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in mortuary services, hospital facilities, and similar sectors. Organisations with recent experience in delivering comparable services to local authorities will be well-suited to compete. Those capable of offering facilities for body storage, post mortem examinations, and providing support staff will find this procurement particularly relevant for growth. As the council may consider alternative suppliers if expressions of interest are received, this presents a pathway for new entrants to enter market segments associated with health and safety services.
