Contract Award Notice for NHS Newcastle & Gateshead Alliance CCG formally NHS Newcastle West and NHS Newcastle North & East Clinical Commissioning Groups. For a Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service. Pulmonary rehabilitation has established itself as a key management strategy in people with chronic respiratory disease. A number of national documents have highlighted the importance of its role and recommended pulmonary rehabilitation for appropriate people. The Department of Health's Outcomes Strategy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Asthma and the subsequent NHS Companion Document states that pulmonary rehabilitation should be provided for all people with COPD with an MRC score of three or above. The aim of the service is to provide'pre - hab' and community pulmonary rehabilitation (level 2) to eligible patients across Newcastle upon Tyne, as part of the COPD patient pathway. The service will enable the best possible outcomes for patients to improve their quality of life and reduce their symptoms. Additionally, it shall deliver services that optimise cost effectiveness.
