Summary of the contracting process

The West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has awarded a contract for "Ophthalmic Services for Primary Care in West Essex" to Primary EyeCare Services. This project falls within the health services industry category and targets the East of England region, specifically Epping (CM16 6TN). The award signifies the completion of the procurement process, which commenced with a direct tender action. The pilot project is set to run for 12 months, starting from 1st October 2020, with potential for a 6-month extension, and aims to address high demand and long waiting lists for ophthalmology services in the area.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses engaged in health services, particularly those specialising in ophthalmology or related healthcare sectors. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) would be well-positioned to compete for similar future contracts, especially those capable of delivering innovative healthcare solutions. As the CCG aims to refine service delivery through this pilot, companies that can demonstrate effective methods for managing patient pathways and enhancing community health will find ample opportunities for growth.

Notice Title

Ophthalmic Services for Primary Care in West Essex - Awarded Contract

Notice Description

This purpose of this Notice is to confirm that West Essex CCG have awarded a contract to Primary EyeCare Services. This is a short term arrangement which will pilot the following 4 pathways: Post-Op Cataract; Glaucoma Repeat Readings; Glaucoma Data Gathering (Tier 1) and Glaucoma Monitoring (Tier 2). These pilots need to be undertaken closely together in order to deliver the extra capacity within the community for Ophthalmology and is based on the local Acute Trust receiving a high demand for services resulting in long waiting lists. The services covered under this contract are not existing services. The pilot approach will allow the CCG to understand the new pathways and refine the delivery model so that there is a clear evidence base underpinning any future service which needs to be commissioned for our patient population on a longer-term basis. The pilot will run for a period of 12 months, with the option to extend for a further 6 months, if required. This allows for full evaluation of services and a decision to be made on the longer-term commissioning and procurement of the service(s).
