Summary of the contracting process

The Buckinghamshire Council is seeking suppliers for the procurement of Alternative Education Provision (AEP) aimed at children who are unable to receive suitable education due to reasons such as exclusion or illness. This procurement encompasses three distinct lots: Lot 1 for full-time onsite provision, Lot 2 for online education, and Lot 3 for short-term placements. The tendering process is currently in the Award stage, with contracts for Lots 1 and 2 running from 1st September 2021 until 31st August 2024, and Lot 3 from 1st September 2021 to 31st August 2022, with potential extensions. The deadline for submitting tender responses was midday on 18th March 2021, and the indicative budget ranges from £50,000 to £480,000 per annum depending on the specific lot.

This tender presents substantial growth opportunities for businesses specialising in educational services, particularly those that provide alternative education and support for vulnerable children. Organisations that focus on onsite education, virtual learning platforms, or have experience in managing short-term educational placements would be well-positioned to compete. Furthermore, small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as they may fulfill the Council’s requirements while contributing to essential educational services in the region.
