Notice Description

The University is committed to the following objectives with this contract: * Ensuring all waste is managed in a way that is complaint with the relevant legislation * Ensuring Duty of Care requirements are met from cradle to grave * Minimising waste generation * Maximising the recycling, recovery and re-use of unavoidable waste * Eliminating waste to landfill * Reducing carbon emissions * Providing regular reporting sustainability performance, including waste management * Protection of the environment and prevention of pollution by reducing emissions and discharges The University requires a waste management provider who not only fully understands our objectives but will ensure, through their professional, responsive and flexible approach, that they will fully realise the objectives and quantify associated sustainable gains from the realisation. The University anticipates improved environmental performance over the course of the contract. This is expected to be achieved through a partnership approach with the appointed contractor, which will increase recycling knowledge and awareness throughout the staff and student body. The University also houses a number of tenants/third parties within its city centre estate (e.g. INTO Newcastle University, Northern Stage, Great North Museum, The Students Union). These parties may wish to join this agreement during the contract period. In the event they join the agreement, the contract will offer the same services described in this document at the same rates as the University to them. Additional third party sites may be added throughout the duration of the contract.
