Summary of the contracting process

The Southampton City Council is seeking proposals for the "Central Station Mass Transit Hub" project, which aims to enhance public transport integration in Southampton, situated in the South East region of the United Kingdom. This project falls under the industry category of transport systems consultancy services, specifically highways consultancy. The procurement stage is currently at the award phase, with the tender awarded on 19 December 2018, and the contract period running from 20 December 2018 to 1 April 2019. The total contract value is £74,963, and the procurement method employed was a further competition from a framework agreement.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in transport consultancy, particularly those with expertise in transport systems, highways, and logistics. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to compete, as their participation could lead to impactful contributions to the development of the transit hub design, which also plays a role in broader regeneration plans in the area. Companies that can offer innovative solutions for public transport integration and accessibility would be particularly well-suited for this project.

Notice Title

Central Station Mass Transit Hub

Notice Description

The Southampton Central Station Mass Transit Hub project aims to deliver a step change in public transport integration that will support high quality, efficient and accessible connections between rail, bus, coach, taxi, walking and cycling. It will also have to cater for car access, but aim to reduce the dominance of car based access, whilst also acknowledging the role and interaction of Western Esplanade which is part of the cities Inner Ring Road. As one of 10 cities now eligible for consideration for the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), Southampton City Council must now progress the design of the new transit hub to ensure the project can be presented as part of the wider TCF business case in the summer 2019 and subject to the outcome, be deliverable by 2022. Development of the transit hub design will also support the wider regeneration plans to the south of the station which includes the now vacant Toys R Us site. This brief covers the concept design optioneering work to establish a preferred design layout option for Central Station Mass Transit Hub.
