Notice Information
Notice Title
Tier 3 and 4 Bariatric Services (Lancashire, South Cumbria and Merseyside CCGs)
Notice Description
Obesity is a major public health problem due to its association with serious chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia which are major risk factors for CVD. Obesity is also associated with cancer, disability, liver disease, poor mental and psychological health, disability, reduced QOL and premature death. The obese state shortens life expectancy. The expected years of life lost is 13 years for men and 8 years for women, for men and women between 20-30 years of age with a BMI greater than 45. It is estimated that circa 6.8% of deaths are attributable to obesity. Lancashire, South Cumbria and Merseyside CCGs will be going to the market to procure Tier 4 Services to meet this requirement and will be reviewing its Tier 3 pathway. CCGs view there being major interoperabilities between the two pathways. Currently arrangements are urgently being put in place to secure capacity for Tier 4 patients but a long term solution is required. CCGs see the benefit of a long term contract or contracts of around 5 years with an option to extend for a further 2 years for tier 4 services as a preferrable approach. Long term transformation would be expected within a contract of this duration particularly in support of tier 3 pathway providers to create better outcomes for patients. An event will be held on the 16th November 2018. The event will discuss the current situation, intended procurement approach, seek feedback on the current specification, discuss activity, quality and performance, finance and provide an opportunity to speak with commissioners. Tier 3 and Tier 4 providers are welcome to attend and there will be a workshop dedicated to Tier 3 provision. To register to receive details for the event please email mlcsu.tenders@nhs.net by the 14th November 2018.
