Summary of the contracting process

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently seeking suppliers for its project titled "IA12 Sub Systems: Port plug, DSM and DFW," which focuses on the manufacturing and assembly of components necessary for remote maintenance operations within the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) programme. This tender, classified under the industrial machinery category, is in the tender stage, with submissions closing on 13th June 2022. The contract will start on 8th August 2022 and run until 7th February 2023, with delivery required in the South East region of the United Kingdom.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary and community sector organisations (VCSEs) well-versed in mechanical and electrical engineering. Businesses engaged in the manufacturing of mechanical equipment or installation services that can meet the strict standards required by the UK's atomic sector, particularly those with a focus on advanced machinery for controlled environments, will find this tender particularly relevant. Competing for this contract can enhance market visibility and foster connections within the growing nuclear research sector.

Notice Title

IA12 Sub Systems: Port plug, DSM an DFW

Notice Description

UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), based at the Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire, hereafter referred to as the Purchaser, carries out research into the use of controlled fusion for the generation of power. In support of the international ITER fusion experiment, under the ITER Robotic Test Facility (IRTF) scope of work, the Purchaser aims to demonstrate the feasibility of remote maintenance operations, that will be carried out within the ITER Hot Cell Complex (HCC). This is being demonstrated through full-scale physical mock-up trials, at the premises of the Purchaser. The results of these trials will inform the final design of the relevant components and systems. As part of this work, the manufacture and assembly of a mock-up Port Plug, Diagnostic Shield Module (DSM) and Diagnostic First Wall (DFW) and all associated fixings is required. It should be noted that although it will be necessary to manufacture the components to the exacting standards required for the Purchaser site, they will not be operating in a radiation environment.
