Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Education is initiating a market engagement process titled "Market Engagement for Mandatory Qualifications for Sensory Impairment (MQSI) Providers," aimed at establishing new criteria for approving providers of mandatory qualifications for teachers of sensory impaired pupils. This engagement is part of the planning stage of the procurement process, with a key milestone of the engagement ending on 14 January 2022. The qualifications and service opportunities are relevant to the education and training industry, and feedback from potential providers is sought to refine the commercial approval process, which is set to start in the academic year 2023/2024.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for educational institutions, particularly Higher Education Providers with Taught Degree Awarding Powers, to engage in a new qualifications framework designed to address the needs of teachers working with students who have sensory impairments. Organisations that specialise in inclusive education and training services will find the planned market engagement event particularly advantageous for establishing their capabilities and aligning with the Department’s vision of ensuring a high-quality, resilient qualifications market. Interested parties should register by emailing to secure their participation in the virtual engagement event during the week of 17 January 2022.
