Summary of the contracting process

The Sellafield organisation is currently in the planning stage of a procurement process for the refurbishment of two manipulator arms located at their site in Seascale, England. The title of the project is "Manipulator refurbishment for area 200 & 300, WEP," and it falls under the industry category of mechanical handling equipment. A key milestone to note is the engagement end date, which is set for 17 June 2022, providing an opportunity for suppliers to prepare for submission of their tenders in the upcoming procurement phase. The project aims to extend the operational capabilities of the manipulators for future missions anticipated to last until approximately 2045.

This tender presents a noteworthy opportunity for businesses that specialise in mechanical handling and robotic systems, particularly those with experience in operational nuclear licensed environments. Companies able to demonstrate their capabilities in designing, installing, and certifying manipulator systems, as well as those with security-cleared personnel, will find themselves well-positioned to compete for this contract. Such businesses can potentially contribute to the refurbishment efforts, ensuring compatibility with existing equipment while also positioning themselves within a long-term operational framework at Sellafield.
