There is a disconnect in monitoring, assessment, management, and decision making across the land-sea interface, which means that land-based pressures are managed without consideration of the estuarine, coastal, and wider marine natural capital assets they influence. A consistent natural capital approach and a strong evidence base that takes a source to sea, catchment to coast approach will enhance decision-making processes that are essential in informing the choices of Government, local authorities, businesses, and coastal communities.
