Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process involves the University of Nottingham, which is funding the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL) project as part of its commitment to advanced research services in physics. The total funding allocated is £302,570, with the procurement method classified as a limited, negotiated procedure without prior publication. The contract period commenced on 17th November 2021 and lasted for a single day. The geographical focus for this contract is in the East Midlands, England, and it falls within the category of research services, specifically related to significant magnetic field generation capabilities.

This tender presents a unique opportunity for SMEs engaged in research services and technological innovation within the field of physics. Businesses that focus on collaboration with European research facilities, particularly those equipped for high magnetic field research, would find this an advantageous area to explore. The targeted nature of the funding aims to enhance capabilities within the EMFL, fostering growth and development opportunities for those eligible to participate in future research collaborations.

Notice Title

Funding from EPSRC as part of the UK membership of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL).

Notice Description

The School of Physics & Astronomy has received funding from EPSRC as part of the UK membership of the European Magnetic Field Laboratory (EMFL). This is a mid-range facility funded by the EPSRC and coordinated by Prof Amalia Patane in the School of Physics & Astronomy. Within the EMFL, the HFML (operated by the Radboud University Nijmegen and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO)) and the LNCI-Grenoble (operated by CNRS) are committed to generate the highest continuous magnetic fields, currently up to 37.5 T. The HLD-Dresden (operated by the Helmholtz- Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf) and the LNCMI-Toulouse focus on non-destructive pulsed magnetic fields with strengths up to the feasibility limited of 100 T and semi-destructive fields up to 200 T. We are distributing this funding to the individual facilities of the EMFL, of which Radboud University is one. We have a contract with EPSRC to this effect. As such, we are not buying anything but are simply re-distributing these EPSRC funds to the EMFL.
