Notice Title

KCL-00001603 Training Systems Review & Replacement, TSRR Requirement for a Learning Management System (LMS) platform

Notice Description

The decision to merge two projects into one comprehensive initiative was driven by the need to deliver a robust Learning Management System (LMS) platform that integrates multiple existing LMS systems. This unified approach aims to streamline operations, reduce redundancy, and enhance user experience by providing a single, cohesive platform. The new LMS platform will not only consolidate the functionalities of the existing systems but also introduce advanced features to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness. By leveraging the strengths of both projects, the merged initiative is poised to deliver a more powerful and versatile LMS solution that meets the diverse needs of the organisation. A critical component of this merged project is the implementation of technical controls to improve compliance with mandatory training requirements. To address non-compliance, the new LMS platform will incorporate mechanisms, as captured in the image on page 11 of this document, that restrict system access to essential functions until the required training is completed. This approach ensures that all users are up to date with mandatory training, thereby enhancing overall compliance and reducing potential risks associated with untrained personnel. By integrating these technical controls, the merged project not only delivers a comprehensive LMS platform but also reinforces the importance of continuous learning and adherence to mandatory training protocols. At King's we have a variety of staff and students who will need access to the mandatory training that everyone is required to complete and a subset of the offer based on their roles and responsibilities in addition to elective training appropriate for their role and responsibilities. The students number around 30,000 made up of undergraduates studying for a first degree, postgraduate taught completing master's level degrees and postgraduate research students who are full time researchers working towards doctoral level degrees. Our approximately 12,000 staff include two high level groupings, Professional Services and Academic, both of which can be broken down into further subsets according to experience, role type and seniority. We also work with several contingent workers, including 500 honorary or emeritus titles and 200 employees of partner organisations, e.g. the NHS. Access to elective courses will need to be restricted to the relevant group or groups, with flexibility around specifying which and in what combination.
