BBC Weather Services - Market Soundings
Notice Description
From the first radio weather bulletin in 1922 to the first weather chart transmitted on television in 1936 through to the launch of the BBC Weather app in 2013, weather has been a core part of the BBC's output for more than 100 years. BBC Weather is founded on trusted, accurate information, outstanding journalism, best in class visuals, and innovative production, 365 days a year delivering hourly updates to forecasts on our app and website and over 400 weather broadcasts daily across radio and television. We operate from around 20 studios across our network, broadcasting in Welsh and Gaelic language output as well as English. We also deliver weather forecasts for global audiences via our digital products and international broadcasts. bbc.co.uk/weather is the UK's biggest weather website with 10 million users every week, while the BBC Weather app has been downloaded over 28 million times since it first launched in 2013. The BBC intends to procure a contract for the provision of services that enable the publication and broadcast of national and global weather forecasts for both linear and digital platforms include continuous data feeds, broadcast scripts, forecast briefings, and the graphics system. Prior to the start of the procurement in 2025, the BBC is undertaking this market soundings exercise, engaging potential suppliers in order to build our understanding of the market's capability and appetite to deliver these services and inform our procurement strategy. Specifically, the BBC would also like to test and evolve our requirements for these services.
