Summary of the contracting process

The Leeds City Council has initiated a procurement process for the export of electricity generated from a newly purchased gas-fired generator. This contract falls under the category of services, specifically related to petroleum products, fuel, electricity, and other energy sources. The procurement method used is a selective restricted procedure, with the tender period concluding on 24 May 2017. The awarded contract, valued at £22,522.50, commenced on 1 June 2017 and is set to end on 1 December 2018. The generator aims to enhance energy efficiency and provide additional income by exporting surplus electricity to the national grid, specifically during peak pricing periods. Key contact for further information is Stephen Blighton from Leeds City Council.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the energy services sector, particularly those specialising in electricity generation and energy management solutions. Companies that can offer maintenance services, advanced monitoring systems, or efficient energy trading software would be particularly well-suited to compete for future contracts arising from this initiative. Engaging in this sector can lead to enhanced visibility and potential growth within the local market, especially as councils continue to seek innovative ways to manage energy use and costs.

Notice Title

Export of electricity from Merrion generator

Notice Description

The Council purchased a gas-fired electricity generator with heat recovery. This gave LCC an opportunity to generate our own power when electricity is more expensive during peak times; and also generate surplus power to export and sell to the national grid at peak times when other consumers are paying premium prices. The purpose of the investment in the generator aimed to increase value for money. Maintenance of the equipment will involve an external contractor, and supervision/switching algorithms will be provided by external specialist software operators, the costs of which are incorporated in to the business case. LCC will: * Generate income by exporting electricity onto the national grid, or to other LCC buildings, when energy prices are favourably high; and * Minimise the cost of energy procurement for LCC as a whole, by changing the consumption pattern significantly
