Njord Stability Assessment

Notice Description

The Department for Transport (DfT) via the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) invites proposals for the Stability assessment of the fishing vessel Njord. At about 1330 on 6 March 2022 the 24m stern trawler Njord capsized, inverted, and then sank in a position close to 58deg 37.6'N 002deg 21.07'E, while the crew were in the process of recovering and processing catch. The capsize resulted in the loss of one of the eight crew on board. MAIB has commenced an investigation and the stability of the vessel is a key aspect to be examined. The vessel has not been recovered and remains on the seabed where it sank. The purpose of this contract would be to digitally model, then assess the stability of Njord at three distinct phases of its life. - In the 2010 unmodified condition - In the 2021 modified condition - In the pre accident condition The supplier must produce a report with the results of the assessment and outlining the analysis done. The report will form part of the MAIB's safety investigation report. The stability assessment with be inevitably based on information supplied by the MAIB. The MAIB will endeavour to ensure this information is as accurate as possible. The supplier must ensure that the analysis made from their calculations and modelling are as accurate as possible.
