Mapping of the NMC Future Nurse Standards
Notice Description
The Future Nurse and Future Midwife Standards for Education published by the Nursing and Midwifery Council herald a step change for the professions. To maximise the impact of these standards on enhancing professional skills, we need to consider new and innovative ways to prepare students for registration as a qualified nurse or midwife. This work will be focussed the development of practice related skills and proficiencies. Positive increases in the numbers of pre-registration students are projected and we need to ensure a high-quality learning experience while recognising the pressures on traditional practice placements and supervision capacity. It is essential to ensure that all students have access to a broad range of high-quality learning opportunities designed to equip them with the skills and competencies they will need to meet the required NMC outcomes. In consequence we are now exploring the use of new and emerging technologies to support the acquisition of the skills, proficiencies and confidence required in practice. This is especially pertinent given the rapid changes occurring in health care services with growing reliance on new technologies in care delivery. This project will focus on mapping the new NMC Future Nurse Standards against the potential for utilising a wider range of simulated and technology-based approaches to support students to develop the skills, confidence and proficiencies they must possess to become safe and effective practitioners. The opportunity, and all related documentation, can be found on the Health Family Portal: https://health-family-contract-search.secure.force.com/?SearchType=Projects
