Summary of the contracting process

This public procurement process involves Kent County Council (KCC) commissioning the construction of a new tunnel on Bean Road in Kent, an area of strategic importance. The tender is organised under the Growth, Environment, and Transport directorate of KCC and falls within the construction work category. The procurement method is a selective competitive procedure with negotiation, and key dates include the tender period ending on 25 October 2024 and the contract period from 28 April 2025 to 8 September 2025. The project, valued at £25.5 million, requires the construction of a 75-metre-long tunnel (an underpass) connecting Whitecliffe to Bluewater Shopping Centre and Ebbsfleet International Railway Station, part of the Fastrack bus rapid transit system within Kent Thameside.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses, particularly those specialising in large-scale construction projects, to engage in a high-value public sector contract. The project offers substantial growth potential through the tangible development of regional transport infrastructure, aligning with local strategic transport and green corridor initiatives. Ideal candidates would include SMEs with capabilities in civil engineering, construction, and infrastructure projects, particularly those experienced in public sector works and familiar with competitive procedures involving negotiation. Successful bidders will not only secure a notable contract but also enhance their portfolio with a landmark project within the Kent area.
