Summary of the contracting process

The Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has awarded a contract for the "Sellafield Transmutation of Elements in an Accelerator" programme, valued at £883,000. This project, classified under the research and development services industry, is located in Sellafield, Cumbria. The tender process has concluded, having reached its end date on 8th October 2021. The contract is set to commence on 11th October 2021 and will run until 31st March 2022. This procurement was conducted through a limited method, specifically a negotiated procedure without prior publication, which is above the applicable threshold.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in research and development services, particularly those with expertise in nuclear energy or advanced engineering solutions. Companies adept in designing experimental programmes, creating detailed engineering specifications, or conducting compatibility reports related to licensing, particularly within the nuclear sector, would find themselves highly suitable to compete for similar contracts in the future. Collaborations or partnerships with agencies like the UK Atomic Energy Authority or National Physics Laboratory could further enhance competitive advantages in bidding for projects of this nature.
