Notice Title

T0519 TRST3034 Safety at Street and Road Works: Safety Code Review

Notice Description

The Department for Transport (the Department) seeks a Consultant to produce an updated statutory code of practice for safety at street and road works (hereafter known as the safety code). The safety code was last updated in 2013. An update is required to review and improve it, to ensure it upholds safety standards, and so that it accurately enables utility companies, highway authorities and roads authorities to safely carry out the signing, lighting and guarding of street works and road works on highways and roads. The safety code update also needs to ensure that it complies with The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016 (TSRGD) and recent updates in other guidance. For example, the safety code update needs to clarify that chapter 8 of the TSRGD is mandatory for National Highways, but guidance only for local roads.
