Fostering Membership, Advice and Mediation Support
Notice Description
a. Foster Carers This service aims to ensure that the Council's internally approved and pre-approved foster carers (including carers temporarily approved by a Regulation 24), have access to a professional membership organisation which offers them support and regular communication as specified in the Fostering Services: National Minimum Standards (NMS) for the provision of fostering services, and any updates. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the Council's foster carers, pre-approved foster carers, staying put and homestays supported lodgings providers, get access to up to date research, information and training in order to continue to develop professionally in their role caring for children and young people who cannot currently remain with their parents. b. Staff This service aims to ensure that Fostering Service staff have access to a professional membership organisation which offers them support and regular communication applicable to the provision of fostering services. This will include, but not be limited to, ensuring fostering staff have access to up-to-date research, information and training in order to continue to develop professionally in their role of supervising and supporting carers. Fostering Advice & Mediation Support This service aims to ensure that the Council's internally approved and pre-approved foster carers, staying put and homestays providers have access to professional legal and independent advice and mediation, particularly if allegations or complaints are made in respect of the care they provide, or they are in conflict with the Council or any external services. A professional advice and mediation service is an important part of the service the Council provides to carers, benefitting them and the children and young people they are caring for.
