Summary of the contracting process

The Coal Authority has awarded a new Hydrometry Framework contract for hydrometric monitoring services across the UK, with the award process completed as of 29th July 2024. The framework is intended to run from 19th August 2024 to 19th August 2028, involving multiple suppliers to cover various aspects of hydrometric monitoring at coal and metal mine sites. The contract is valued at £9.5 million and covers services under six lots, ranging from design and build of monitoring systems to spot flow gauging and water quality sampling. The procurement process was conducted using an open procedure above the threshold, aimed predominantly at SMEs.

This tender provides substantial opportunities for SMEs to grow their business by offering specialised hydrometric monitoring services. The framework's division into six distinct lots allows businesses to bid for specific services matching their expertise, thus facilitating smaller and medium-sized enterprises to participate without needing to cover the entire UK. The framework's non-exclusive nature and the participation of other bodies like National Resources Wales highlight additional business opportunities for those engaged in environmental monitoring services, hydrometeorology, and related fields.
