Summary of the contracting process

The Cumbria County Council is currently conducting a tender for Interpretation and Translation services, aimed at supporting public service accessibility in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. The procurement is categorised under Health and social work services, with a total estimated value of £1,024,250. The tender was published on 4th July 2018 and is open until 3rd August 2018. The services are to be delivered primarily in the North East of England, with the contract period commencing on 1st October 2018 and concluding on 31st March 2021. The procurement method employed is the open procedure, facilitating participation from a wide range of suppliers.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in language services, including translation and interpretation. Companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), that offer linguistic expertise and cultural knowledge would be well-positioned to compete for this contract. Engaging with Cumbria County Council could enable these businesses to expand their service offerings while contributing to the Council’s commitment to equal access for all residents, particularly those with limited English proficiency.

Notice Title

Interpretation and Translation

Notice Description

Cumbria County Council is committed to making sure members of the public can access our services. As part of its public sector equality duty under the Equality Act 2010 the Council has to remove or minimise disadvantages suffered by people due to their protected characteristics, therefore in order to support customers whose first language is not English interpretation and translation services should be available. The Translation and Interpretation service may be required by all departments of the Council yet a number of Council services have historically placed a higher demand on the need for a Translation and Interpretation Service
