Notice Title

A Dudley All Age Mental Health Needs Assessment

Notice Description

The occurrence of international and national events, including a global pandemic and the increase in cost of living, have impacted on some individuals' health and lives contributing to a further increase in inequalities. The West Midlands Mental Health Commission Report (June 2023) speaks of the significant recent increase in the number of people in contact in NHS mental health services across the region. Given that mental health and wellbeing needs are probably also changing within Dudley, with some evidence of widening inequalities in the local population, the need for a Mental Health and Wellbeing Needs Assessment has been identified. Through developing a better understanding of the Mental Health and Wellbeing needs among those living in Dudley and identifying areas and gaps in which the health and wellbeing of local people can be improved, in both the short and long term, findings can be utilised to inform the development of a Borough wide mental health and wellbeing strategy, inform commissioning and service redesign and ensure the Borough is able to keep people mentally well through a strong focus on prevention. Furthermore, people can access mental health services when they need it. Dudley Borough wants to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment covering the following components: 1- Epidemiological needs assessment, measuring the magnitude of mental ill-health using routine data, locally, regionally and nationally produced reports, listening exercises and data held by the third sector. The aim of this section is: o To give clear picture on the demand for mental health services across the full life course and unmet need o Identify high risk groups and areas of inequalities o Assessment of the Borough mental health data qualities and identification of data gaps o Assess the impact of COVID and the recent increases to the cost of living on mental ill-heath o Assess the impact and the relationship between mental health and the wider determinants of health o Understanding health inequalities and differences in mental health and wellbeing needs between population groups, identifying high risk groups. o Focus should span across the full life course, including consideration of parental and infant mental health in the first 1001 critical days, (childhood and adolescence (0-19), Working age adults (20-64) and older people aged (65+) Additional information: This exercise is being conducted in electronic format.
