Summary of the contracting process

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is seeking tenders for the "Purchasing, Distribution and Administration of Solid Fuel Benefits" aimed at qualifying former employees of the coal industry or their widows. This open procurement process, currently in the tender stage, has a deadline for submissions on 20 June 2019, and the delivery will be required in England, Wales, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. The contract will span from 29 March 2020 to 29 March 2025, addressing a significant historic obligation under the National Concessionary Fuel Scheme for approximately 6,600 beneficiaries as of December 2018.

This tender presents a valuable opportunity for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community sector enterprises (VCSEs) to engage in a stable and ongoing service provision. Companies with experience in solid fuel logistics, distribution, and administration are particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. As the number of qualifying concessionaires is decreasing, firms in these sectors can leverage this opportunity to demonstrate their capability in fulfilling government obligations while contributing to community welfare.
