Summary of the contracting process

VisitBritain procured domestic tourism market research under the title BTA2209 Domestic Sentiment Tracker. The service tracks consumer sentiment and intentions among UK adults, covering the cost of living crisis, overnight trips in the UK and abroad, day trips, business trips, sustainability and other monthly topics. It is intended to provide consistent, robust and nationally representative data, with data and reports supplied to the insights teams of VisitEngland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales. Findings are used for internal and external analysis and reported to the wider tourism industry. The work is a research service delivered across the United Kingdom and, where relevant, Europe, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, British Overseas Territories and the rest of the world.

The procurement is complete and the contract was awarded through a selective further competition call-off from the CCS/GCA RM6126 Research & Insights Dynamic Purchasing System. The tender submission deadline was 2 April 2026 at 12:00. The estimated procurement value was between £265,000 and £270,000 including the stated minimum and maximum values. VisitBritain awarded the contract to IPSOS (MARKET RESEARCH) LTD on 15 April 2026 for £265,580. The contract period runs from 1 May 2026 to 31 March 2029. The requirement was classified as research services and was identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. The award is active and the overall tender status is complete.

This requirement demonstrates sustained public-sector demand for tourism and consumer insight based on nationally representative research. Suppliers best placed for a future requirement would need strong market-research capability, reliable access to UK adult samples and the ability to produce robust, consistent tracking data across multiple tourism topics. They would also need to manage recurring monthly research, respond to changing subjects such as economic pressures and sustainability, and deliver clear datasets and reports to agreed timetables. Experience translating survey findings into useful insight for tourism bodies and industry stakeholders would be commercially relevant. The procurement route also indicates that suppliers seeking comparable work may need to qualify for, and compete through, a research-focused dynamic purchasing system.

Notice Title

BTA2209 Domestic Sentiment Tracker

Notice Description

Call-Off Contract following Further Competition on the CCS/GCA RM6126 Research & Insights DPS. In May 2020, VisitEngland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales launched an ongoing research project with the objective to track developments in regard to domestic tourism and recovery of the industry post-pandemic. The findings are made publicly available. The results from this research should enable VisitEngland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales to continue consistently tracking consumer sentiment in regard to: * the current cost of living crisis, * overnight trip intentions of UK adults (UK and abroad), * day trip intentions, * business trip intentions, * sustainability * and other ad hoc topics each month. The research objectives would provide consistent, robust and nationally representative data, which is delivered to the agreed timelines, delivering data and reports to the VisitEngland, VisitScotland and Visit Wales insights teams, that will report to the tourism industry at large and be used as a basis for analysis internally and externally.
