Summary of the contracting process

The West Midlands Police is seeking suppliers for its Vehicle Recovery Scheme, which covers the provision of 24/7 recovery and storage services for various types of vehicles, including light and heavy vehicles. The procurement is currently in the Tender stage, with submissions due by 2nd September 2022. The contract will commence on 1st March 2023 and is set to run until 28th February 2026, with an option to extend by up to 36 months based on performance. The procurement method is an open procedure, and the service region spans eight Neighbourhood Policing Units in the West Midlands.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in vehicle recovery and storage services, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Providers that can effectively manage both light and heavy vehicle recovery operations are well-positioned to compete, especially those capable of covering multiple Neighbourhood Policing Units. The requirement for a minimum of two operators per lot enhances the likelihood of contracts being awarded, thus creating avenues for collaboration among local recovery services.
