Summary of the contracting process

The procurement process for the Chemical Disinfection and Inspection of Water Systems at Keele University has reached the award stage, with Total Environmental Compliance Ltd securing the contract. Keele University, located in Staffordshire, is overseeing this procurement under the category of technical inspection services. The contract, valued at approximately £526,996.80 GBP, will run for an initial period of three years starting from 1st August 2025, with potential extensions up to 31st July 2030. The procurement followed a restricted procedure, a form of selective procurement method, and included mandatory site visits to facilitate an understanding of the campus scale. The quality criteria focused on approach, methodology, relevant experience, and risk management, while price also played a significant part in the evaluation.

This tender opens up a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in water system inspection and disinfection services, particularly those that can demonstrate expertise and robust risk management. SMEs are particularly well-suited to compete, given the procurement's suitability for such enterprises. Moreover, the substantial contract value and extended potential duration provide a stable revenue opportunity and could act as a springboard for further growth within the academic institutions' sector or broader technical inspection service markets. Businesses with a strategic focus on environmentally compliant solutions or those looking to expand their service offerings within the West Midlands region will find this contract particularly attractive.
